Flanged pipe with screwed - on flanges shall be furnished with long <br /> hubs , and the flanges shall be screwed on the threaded end of the <br /> pipe in the shop , and the face of the flange and end of pipe refaced <br /> together . There shall be no leakage through the pipe threads and the <br /> flanges shall be designed to prevent corrosion of the threads from <br /> outside . The back of the hub shall be caulked where the hub threads <br /> joint with the pipe . <br /> 5 . Valve Box Adjustments : <br /> Cost of valve nut extenders shall be included in cost of valve box <br /> adjustments where needed . <br /> E . Disinfecting Potable Water Pipelines <br /> Before being placed in service , all potable water pipelines shall be <br /> chlorinated in accordance with the latest edition of AWWA C - 651 , <br /> Standard Procedure for Disinfecting Water Mains " , except that the use of <br /> tablets is strictly prohibited . The procedure shall be approved by the <br /> Engineer . The location of the chlorination and sampling points will be as <br /> specified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection , Water <br /> Distribution System Permit . Taps for chlorination and sampling shall be <br /> uncovered and backfilled by the Contractor , as required . <br /> F . Aerial Crossing Painting Requirements <br /> 1 . The Contractor shall furnish all labor , materials , equipment and incidentals <br /> required to paint all components as herein specified . <br /> 2 . The Work includes the painting and finishing of all exposed exterior surfaces . <br /> 3 . The term " paint " as used herein means all coating system materials , which <br /> includes pretreatment , primers , emulsions , enamels , sealers and fillers , and <br /> other applied materials whether used as prime , intermediate or finish coats . <br /> 4 . Flanged exposed piping shall have a paintable sealant placed between the <br /> back of the flange and the threaded pipe end connection . The back of the <br /> flange shall be prepared prior to the application of the sealant . <br /> 5 . Provide finish coats , which are compatible with the prime paints used . <br /> Contractor shall be responsible for the compatibility of all shop primed and <br /> field painted items . Furnish information on the characteristics of the finish <br /> materials proposed for use to ensure that compatible prime coats are used . <br /> Provide barrier coats over incompatible primers or remove and reprime as <br /> required . Notify the Engineer in writing of anticipated problems using the <br /> coating systems as specified with substrates primed by others . <br /> 6 . Surface Preparation : <br /> a . Clean ferrous surfaces that have not been shop - coated of all oil , <br /> grease , dirt , loose mill scale and other foreign substances by near <br /> white blast cleaning , complying with SSPC - SP 10 . 5 .
