1 <br /> DATE : December 5, 2008 <br /> TO : Indian River County Florida Delegation <br /> RE : Resolution and Recommendation <br /> for "Stan Mayfield Memorial Highway " <br /> Resolution <br /> WHEREAS, on September 30th 2008, the Indian River County community lost a <br /> great friend and public servant who represented us with honor, genuineness and <br /> integrity; and <br /> WHEREAS, Our neighbor and fellow businessman, Stan Mayfield, was first elected <br /> to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000 and served in that capacity until the <br /> time of his death ; and <br /> WHEREAS, Stan's leadership and commitment to our entire community helped <br /> facilitate communication about the importance of Indian River County issues being <br /> heard and responded to in our state government in Tallahassee; and <br /> WHEREAS, Stan was a loyal advocate for our county, carrying our message on <br /> local issues and needs to Tallahassee and the floor of the House of Representatives to <br /> help leverage funding and initiatives; and <br /> WHEREAS, Stan <br /> • Fought to lower property taxes and reform insurance to make <br /> homeownership more affordable. <br /> • Advocated for Indian River County during hurricane recovery efforts. <br /> • Supported the Sebastian working waterfront initiative resulting in The Stan <br /> Mayfield Working Waterfronts Program created to acquire land for the <br /> purpose of commercial fishing operations or educational, cultural, and <br /> historic purposes connected with aquaculture, <br />
