Mr. James L. Beindorf,representing Rev. Leo B. Roberts, Director <br />of the Baptist Retirement Center, appeared before the Board in regard <br />to the abandonment of any rights the County might have to the reservations <br />shown on the Plat of Buckinghammock'and requested that this be done <br />through public hearing. The Board informed Mr. Beindorf to present a <br />formal petition and resolution for abandonment and a public hearing will <br />be set. <br />Mr. Thomas H. Trent, Civil Defense Director, requested that he <br />be authorized to purchase insurance for the 1953 Chevrolet Pickup truck <br />out of civil defense funds received from the sale of surplus equipment. <br />Commissioner Waddell moved that,since the Civil Defense Director feels <br />the truck is needed and has the money,the request be, apprbved.and .that <br />the Board of County Commissioners be named as "additional insured" on <br />the policy. The Motion was seconded by Commissioner McCullers and un- <br />animously carried. <br />Mr. Trent requested authorization to purchase, in bulk, first- <br />aid supplies needed by his organization, stating that this would be <br />less expensive than buying individual kits. The belts would then be <br />made up and issued to the workers. Commissioner: Waddell moved, seconded <br />by Commissioner Haffield and unanimously carried, that the Civil Defense <br />Director be authorized to purchase the necessary first-aid supplies in <br />/ <br />bulk out of funds received from the sale of surplus equipment. <br />Sidney Hayes, of 35th Avenue, appeared before the Board and <br />complained of the odor of the Russell -Burks sewage disposal plant in <br />Gifford. Commissioner Waddell was requested to take the matter up with <br />the State Board of Health to give recommendations on what can be done <br />to stop the odor nuisance. <br />The Chairman read a letter from Dr. C. C. Flood, Director of <br />the Indian River County Health Department, requesting approval of a <br />leave without pay for a six -month's period for Ethel L. Klepp, PHN II, <br />who has been named executive director of the Economic Opportunities <br />Council of Indian River County. This leave would be with the under- <br />standing that she shall be reinstated to a posttion in the same class <br />when one is available during that period if she so requests.
