' 2 .2 .4 . Brine Main <br /> Methods of Construction <br /> General <br /> iWhen received from the carrier and at the time of unloading, the Contractor shall inspect all pipe <br /> and accessories for loss or damage in transit. No shipment of material should be accepted by the <br /> ' Contractor unless proper exceptions are made on the receipt obtained by the carrier at the time of <br /> delivery, as to loss and/or damage. <br /> The Contractor shall be responsible for all material furnished by him. All such material which is <br /> defective in manufacture or has been damaged in transit or has been damaged after delivery, shall <br /> be replaced by the Contractor at his expense . <br /> All material found during the progress of the work to have cracks, flaws or other defects will be <br /> rejected by the Engineer or his authorized inspector, and the Contractor shall promptly remove <br /> such defective material from the site of the work. <br /> The Contractor shall be responsible for the safe storage of all material furnished to or by him <br /> ' until it has been incorporated in the complete project. <br /> The locations of the existing pipes and structures shown on the plans are approximate, and before <br /> construction, the Contractor shall determine the exact locations of all existing pipes and <br /> structures to which connections are to be made. <br /> The Contractor shall submit to the Owner, an as-built location plan of the mains . The plans shall <br /> show the stationing and dimensions of the above items and reference to above ground objects. <br /> Excavation and Preparation of Trench <br /> ' The trench shall be dug to the required alignment and depth only so far in advance of pipe laying <br /> as the Engineer shall permit. The trench shall be braced and drained when necessary so that <br /> workmen may work therein safely and efficiently. <br /> The trench width at the ground surface may vary with and depend upon its depth and the nature <br /> of the ground encountered. The maximum clear width of trench at the top of the pipe shall not be <br /> more than the outside diameter of the barrel of the pipe plus two (2) feet. Greater width of <br /> trench at the top of the pipe shall be permitted only on written approval by the Engineer. Asphalt <br /> concrete surfaces shall be cut with pavement cutters, pneumatic hammers, saws or other devices <br /> that may be approved by the Engineer. <br /> 11 <br />
