' 2.2 .4 . Brine Main <br /> Expelling Air Before Tests <br /> During the filling of the pipe and before applying the specified test pressure, all air shall be <br /> expelled from the pipe line. To accomplish this, taps shall be made, if necessary, at point of <br /> highest elevation, and after completion of the test, the taps shall be tightly plugged unless <br /> otherwise specified. <br /> Examination Under Pressure <br /> During the test, all exposed pipes, fittings, and couplings will be carefully examined. If found to <br /> be cracked or defective, they shall be removed and replaced by the Contractor with sound <br /> material . The test shall then be repeated until satisfactory to the Owner. <br /> All exposed pipes, fitting, and joints shall be examined for leakage during the test. Should any <br /> test of a section of pipe line disclose joint leakage greater than that permitted, the Contractor <br /> shall, at his own expense, locate and repair the defective joints until the leakage is within the <br /> permitted allowance. <br /> 2.2.5 . Fittings <br /> Description <br /> General fittings shall be cast from gray iron or ductile iron de- signed for an operating pressure of <br /> 250 psi with a minimum factor of safety of 2. 5 manufactured in accordance with and to the <br /> applicable dimensions and weights conforming to the requirements of AWWA C110 or AWWA <br /> C153 unless otherwise specified. All pipe fittings shall be mechanical joint with restrained joint, <br /> internally lined with 40 Mils DFT of Protecto 401 or approved equal and externally coated with <br /> coal tar or asphalt base bituminous coating, 1 mil thick. Gray iron or ductile iron pipe fittings, <br /> finishes, fittings and appurtenances shall conform to the following applicable standards : <br /> AWWA C153 - Ductile Iron Compact Fittings, 3 " through 12" for Water and Other Liquids. <br /> ANSI A21 . 11 (AWWA C111 ) - American National Standard for Rubber Gasket Joints for <br /> Ductile Iron and Gray Iron Pressure Pipe and Fittings . <br /> ANSI A21 . 10 (AWWA C110) - American National Standard for Gray Iron and Ductile Iron <br /> Fittings 3 " through 48 " for Water and Other Liquids. <br /> ANSI/AWWA C600 AWWA - Standard for Installation of Ductile Iron Water Mains and their <br /> Appurtenances . <br /> 16 <br />
