SECTION 1 <br /> WATER MAINS <br /> DUCTILE IRON PIPES AND FITTINGS <br /> 1 . 01 SCOPE <br /> This section covers cast ductile iron pipe and cast ductile iron fittings for <br /> water mains . <br /> 1 .02 GENERAL <br /> A. Ductile iron pipe ( D . I . P . ) shall be allowed for use as water pipe <br /> where compatible with the specific conditions of the project. The <br /> use of material other than ductile iron may be required by Indian <br /> River County Department of Utility Services ( IRCDUS ) during <br /> construction permit review or by IRCDUS field personnel during <br /> construction if it is determined that ductile iron pipe is unsuitable <br /> for the particular application . <br /> B . All ductile iron pipes shall be manufactured in accordance with <br /> AWWA Standard Specifications C151 /A21 . 51 -96 , or latest revision <br /> and shall be pressure Class 300 or 350 minimum as depicted on <br /> Table 1 . 1 on page 1 -2. All ductile iron pipe crossing under <br /> roadways and other trafficked areas shall be pressure class 350 <br /> minimum . <br /> C . Unless specifically indicated otherwise , restrained joint <br /> underground piping shall be manufactured restrained bell and <br /> spigot and above ground or exposed piping shall be flanged . <br /> D . Cutting of ductile iron pipe shall be by sawing only. <br /> 1 . 03 PIPE <br /> Ductile iron pipe shall be bell and spigot cast in accordance with AWWA <br /> Standard Specifications C151 /A21 . 51 -96 , or latest revision . Cast ductile <br /> iron shall have a minimum tensile strength of 60 , 000 psi , with a minimum <br /> yield strength of 42 , 000 psi . Pipe wall thickness shall be computed in <br /> accordance with AWWA Standard Specifications C150/A21 . 50-96 , or <br /> latest revision , using the physical characteristics cited above , with a <br /> minimum working pressure of 200 psi and a Laying Condition "Type 2 . " <br /> Unless otherwise indicated or specified herein , the pipe shall have the <br /> minimum wall thickness according to class designation for diameters <br /> shown . All pipe shall be given a minimum factory hydrostatic test of 500 <br /> pounds per square inch . <br /> 1 - 1 <br />
