AWWA Standard C605, "Underground Installation of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pressure Pipe and <br />Fittings for Water". Engineer shall be present during all testing, and final inspections. No hydrostatic <br />testing against existing system valves shall be allowed until the section to be tested has been <br />bacteriologically cleared. <br />2.02 The new water system shall remain disconnected (connecting valve to be locked in the closed position) <br />from existing water lines except for the temporary jumper connection. All water used to fill and test the <br />new water system shall be obtained through the temporary jumper connection. Flushing shall only be <br />conducted in accordance with the plans. <br />2.03 The general procedure for chlorination shall be first to flush all dirty or discolored water from <br />the lines, and then introduce chlorine in approved dosages in accordance with Table 11-1 through a <br />tap at one end, while water is being withdrawn at the other end of the line. The chlorine solution <br />shall remain in the pipeline for no less than 24 hours. <br />2.04 Following the chlorination period, all treated water shall be flushed from the lines at their extremities <br />and replaced with water from the distribution system. Bacteriological sampling and analysis of the <br />replacement water shall then be made in the presence of the Engineer in full accordance <br />with the AWWA Standard C-651. The Contractor will be required to re -chlorinate, if necessary. The <br />line shall not be placed in service until the requirements of the State and County Public Health <br />Department are met. <br />2.05 The Contractor shall make all arrangements necessary with an independent commercial laboratory <br />approved by the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Service (HRS) for the collection and <br />examination of samples of water from disinfected water mains. These samples shall be examined for <br />compliance with HRS requirements. Sampling shall be made daily and continuously until two <br />successive examinations are found satisfactory. Should three examinations be found unsatisfactory, <br />the line shall be flushed and disinfected again. Certified copies of all laboratory analyses shall be <br />provided to the Owner. The cost of all sampling, flushing, and disinfecting shall be included in the <br />contract price and no additional charge shall be made to the Owner for this work.
