WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1967 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, met in regular session at the Courthouse, Vero Beach, Florida <br />on Wednesday, September 20, 1967, at 8:30 A. M. Present were Robert <br />W. Graves, Chairman; Donald Macdonald, Richard P. Bogosian, Jack U.. <br />Dritenbas, D. B. McCullers,Jr. Also present were Jack G. Jennings, <br />County Administrator; Sherman N. Smith, County Attorney; and Ruth <br />Elliott and Janet Burriss, Deputy Clerks. <br />Mrs. Ethel O'Brien, Executive Director of the Economic Opportunity <br />Council appeared before the Board to report on the progress of the <br />Child Development Project for Indian River County. She Stated that <br />there were five centers in operation with 240 children enrolled. Mrs. <br />Pit= Bergey, Chairman of the Neighborhood Center Committee was also <br />present and informed the Board of the plans of?the Catholic Church <br />to construct a building on their property on South Gifford Road, in <br />which the EOC may work, and also they hope to develop a recreational <br />facility for Gifford on that property. <br />/Motion was made by Commissioner Bogosian, seconded by Commissioner <br />Macdonald and unanimously carried, that the Board go on record as <br />commending these ladies for the work they have done and they will <br />continue to do; and, in addition, a commendation for the Catholic <br />Church and for the efforts they are making to establish a community <br />center in Gifford. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by Commissioner <br />McCullers and unanimously carried, that the Administrator be authorized <br />to make the necessary surveys and have an easement prepared for a 20' <br />easement through the property of Mr. Andrew Wood in Winter Beach. <br />Sec 10-T32-S-Rge 39E. <br />The Board received a request from the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in <br />Gifford, 4221 28th Avenue, requesting that a street light be installed <br />near the site of their church. The Administrator reported that it <br />does not meet the criteria that the County has been operatlinT under <br />for the installation of street lights.
