of five (5) members. It is considered desirable that <br />one member of such Board shall be an architect or <br />engineer, two members shall have .no business con- <br />nection with the construction industry and shall rep- <br />resent consumers, and two members shall be or have <br />been active in the trades of general contracting, elec- <br />trical or plumbing. The Board may request the ser- <br />vices of qualified experts to assist it in technical <br />questions presented for consideration. The said <br />Board shall be appointed by the Chief Appointing <br />Authority (the Board of County Commissioners). " <br />(16) TERM OF OFFICE. Section 111.2. is amended to read: <br />"The members of the Board of Adjustment. and. Appeals <br />first appointed shall be appointed to staggered terms, <br />two members for one (1) year, one member for two (2) <br />years, one member for three (3) years and one member <br />for four (4) years. Thereafter, members shall be ap- <br />pointed for terms of four (4) years. Vacancies shall be., <br />filled for unexpired terms in the manner in which origi- <br />nal appointments are required to be made. Continued <br />absence of any member from regular meetings of the <br />Board shall, at the discretion of the Chief Appointing <br />Authority, render such member liable to immediate <br />removal. " <br />(17) Chapter III, FIRE DISTRICTS, is repealed. <br />(18) FOOTINGS AND FOUNDATIONS GENERAL. Section <br />1302.1 is amended to read: <br />"Except in the case of temporary structures, footings <br />and foundations, unless specifically provided, .shall be <br />constructed of grillages of steel, of masonry or of -rein- <br />forced concrete in no case less than 12 inches below <br />grade. The use of monolithic poured slabs and footings <br />shall be permitted in accordance with sound construction <br />practices and shall be permitted where justified. Mason- <br />ry units used in foundation walls and footings shall be <br />laid up in Type M, S, or N mortar. The base areas of <br />all footings and foundations shall be proportioned as <br />specified in Section 1302.3. <br />(19) APPENDIX "D" - HURRICANE REQUIREMENTS.
