k <br />�' , '.,:. 3 i°�.i: i..l .�� � t �i+ d•d� � m � iy �0 b y;� t -� o a i •� Xyf ,�64'1+#$�"^18 <br />RESOLUTION 70-43 <br />M <br />►s . <br />WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Board of County <br />Commissioners of Indian River County that certain commercial shellfish <br />operators are presently using escalator harvesters for the taking of <br />shellfish, and <br />WHEREAS, these operators are seeking permission to operate <br />escalator harvesters in the Indian River, and <br />WHEREAS, these harvesters must dig a trench several inches <br />into the river bottom, which operation disturbs the bottom, causes <br />silting, destroys rooted vegetation and exposes burrowing organisms I <br />to predators, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County <br />Commissioners of Indian River County does herewith urge that use of <br />eq:calator harvesters be banned from use in the Indian River until tests <br />can show conclusively that their use is not detrimental to the ecology <br />of the river and until such harvesters have the approval of the Florida <br />Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission <br />DONE AND RESOLVED at Vero Beach, Florida, this 8th day of October, <br />1970. <br />Jack U.
