y4 <br />its !„/1� <br />e <br />i <br />R E S�0 L U T I 0 N 70-48 <br />WHEREAS, the Vegetable Industry of Florida is a multimillion <br />dollar business with tomatoes and strawberries being a major <br />commodity.. <br />WHEREAS, the continued increase in importation of tomatoes <br />and strawberries from Mexico constitutes a most serious threat <br />to our.agri-business economy which cannot compete because of <br />wage differential between Mexican and American workers. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA IN REGULAR <br />MEETING ASSEMBLED.THIS 22ND DAY OF OCTOBER, 1970. <br />That the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County does hereby respectfully request the Congress of the <br />United States of America to take whatever action is available <br />and appropriate to protect our Vegetable Industry in the United <br />States from drastic consequences of the unlimited importation of <br />tomatoes and strawberries from Mexico. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this <br />Resolution be furnished to the Honorable Spessard L. Holland, <br />United States Senator; the Honorable Edward J. Gurney, United <br />States Senator; and the Honorable Sam Gibbons, United States <br />Congressman; the State Association of County Commissioners and <br />to each of the Boards of County Commissioners of the State of <br />Florida. <br />• On Motion of Commissioner•McCullers, second of Commissioner Loy, <br />the Board unanimously approved out of County, travel of Forrest N. <br />McCullars, County Extension Agent to Miami on.October 28 through <br />30 to attend the State Horticultural Society Convention. <br />4,7 <br />OCT 2 2 197' <br />0 <br />
