THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1972
THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER
COUNTY, FLORIDA MET IN SPECIAL SESSION AT THE COURTHOUSE, VERO
BEACH, FLORIDA ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1972 AT 7:30 P.M. O'CLOCK.
PRESENT WERE RICHARD P. BOGOSIAN, CHAIRMAN: ALMA LEE Loy, VICE
CHAIRMAN: JACK U. DRITENBAS: D.B. MCCULLERS, JR. EDWARD J.
MASSEY WAS ABSENT. ALSO PRESENT WERE JACK G. JENNINGS, COUNTY
ADMINISTRATOR: PAUL D. BURCH, ATTORNEY TO THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, L.S. THOMAS, DEPUTY CLERK.
THE CHAIRMAN CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER.
GENE MORRIS, TAX COLLECTOR, PRESENTED TO THE BOARD THE
1971 ERRORS AND INSOLVENCIES REPORT FOR TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE
TAXES. ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER Loy, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER
DRITENBAS, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY ACCEPTED THE ERRORS AND INSOLVENCIES
REPORT AS PRESENTED BY GENE MORRIS, TAX COLLECTOR.
THE BOARD DISCUSSED LEASING THE MITCHELL BUILDING LOCATED
AT 1601 20TH STREET TO THE CITY -COUNTY BUILDING DEPARTMENT AT A
TOTAL COST OF $600.00 PER MONTH ON AN 18 MONTH LEASE WITH THE RENT
FOR THE FIRST YEAR PAYABLE IN ADVANCE.
COMMISSIONER DRITENBAS HAD INVESTIGATED THIS MATTER FOR THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND THE CHAIRMAN QUESTIONED WHY
THE RENT WAS TWICE AS MUCH FOR THIS BUILDING NOW AS IT WAS WHEN THE
CITY -COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT LEASED IT. COMMISSIONER DRITENBAS
EXPLAINED THAT THE CITY -COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT DID NOT LEASE THE
ENTIRE BUILDING AND THAT THE SQUARE FOOT RENTAL FOR THAT PORTION
OF THE BUILDING AT $600.00 PER MONTH WAS CHEAPER THAN THE SQUARE
FOOT RENTAL PAID BY THE CITY -COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT.
THE CHAIRMAN STATED THAT HE DID NOT WANT MR. RALPH STEWART,
THE OWNER OF THE BUILDING, TO HAVE ANY SPACE IN THAT PART OF THE
BUILDING BEING RENTED BY THE CITY -COUNTY BUILDING DEPARTMENT.
AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE BOARD, THE CHAIRMAN INSTRUCTED
JACK G. JENNINGS, COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR, TO MEET WITH JOHN DUMARS,
CITY MANAGER RELATIVE TO AN UNDERSTANDING REGARDING THE COST OF
MAINTAINING THE AIR-CONDITIONING, PLUMBING, AND SO FORTH.
OCTOUR 15
121972
J
