Powers and Duties of Building Official. <br />(4) All electrical. installations, regardless of type, <br />which are unsafe or which constitute a hazard to human life, <br />health or welfare are hereby declared illegal and shall be <br />abated by repair and rehabilitation. or by demolition in <br />accordance with the procedure as outlined in section 101101 <br />102_4, unsafe buildings, of the Standard Building Code, as <br />modified by this article. <br />SECTION 5. <br />Section 4-55, Code of. Laws and Ordinances, is amended <br />to. read. <br />Sec. 4-55. Liability,: <br />Any officer'or employee, or member of the Indian River <br />County_ Building_ Code board of adjustments and appeals, <br />charged with the enforcement of any of the codes established <br />by this article, acting for the applicable governing body in <br />the discharge of his duties, shall not thereby render <br />himself _liable personally for ordinary negligence, and he is <br />hereby relieved from all personal liability for ordinary <br />negligence for any damage that may occur to persons or <br />property as a result of any act required or permitted in the <br />discharge of his duties. Any suit brought against any <br />officer or employee because of such act performed by him in <br />the. enforcement of any provisions of such codes shall be <br />defended by the county attorney (referred to in place of <br />department of law) until the final termination of the <br />proceedings.
