e. Illuminated Signs. <br />(1) The light frcxn any illuminated sign or from any light source <br />shall be shielded and directed away frau abutting properties and <br />shall not impair the vision of motorists. <br />(2) No signs except message <br />center signs and <br />time and tanperature <br />signs shall have exposed <br />fluorescent lighting. <br />(3) No signs shall use fluorescent paint or be phosphorescent. No <br />sign shall have exposed neon. Unexposed neon shall be approved <br />by a testing laboratory acceptable to the County. No light <br />sources such as strip lighting or streamers, shall be allowed <br />along roof lines or above the roof. Height of and Distance Separating Signs. No part of any sign affixed <br />to a building shall exceed the height of the building to which the <br />sign is affixed. The height of the building shall be measured exclu- <br />sive of elevator shafts and/or air conditioning condensing units <br />and/or cooling towers. The height of free standing signs is con- <br />trolled for respective zoning districts in Section 25-0.8. Distance <br />requirements in this section shall be measured from the nearest part <br />of any sign (or its structure) to the nearest point of the closest <br />applicable setback line, property line, roof line, or other applicable <br />restricting line or point of separation (including distance between <br />signs) or height limitation. <br />That the Code of Ordinances of Indian River County is hereby amended by adding a <br />section to be numbered 25-0.7, which section shall read as follows: <br />• r •ii•- a i••I 1 1111 1 1e+ ••'-slynnummum <br />The signs identified in this subsection shall require issuance of a permit by <br />the Code Enforcement Official, except as otherwise specified herein. Prior to <br />the placement of any of the temporary signs described below in this subsection, <br />all relevant provisions of this ordinance shall be satisfied. <br />a. Political Signs. Placement of individual political signs does not <br />require a permit, provided all other provisions of this section are <br />met. <br />i. Timing of Placement. Political signs may be erected no more than <br />(60) days prior to the election in which the candidate's name or <br />the issue will appear. Any unopposed candidate in the first <br />primary who will face opposition in the following General <br />Election may erect temporary political signs sixty (60) days <br />prior to the first primary, notwithstanding the fact that the <br />candidate's name will not appear on the first primary ballot. <br />
