WEDNESDAY APRIL 4, 1973 <br />THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY, FLORIDA MET IN REGULAR.SESSION AT THE COURTHOUSE, <br />VERA -BEACH, FLORIDA ON WEDNESDAY, -APR m 4, 1973 -AT 8:30 <br />OlcLOCK AA. PRESENT WERE ALMA LEE LOY, CHAIRMAN; EDWARD J. <br />MASSE V', VICE CHAIRMAN; WILLARD W. SIEBERT. JR.; JACK U. DRITENBAS <br />AND_RfCHARD P. BOGOSIAN. ALSO PRESENT _WERE JACK G. JENNINGS, <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR; PAUL D. BURCH, ATTORNEY TO THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS; L.S. THOMAS AND ELIZABETH FORLANI, DEPUTY <br />CLERKS. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ASKED <br />IF T14ERE WERE ANY ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO THE MINUTES OF <br />THE REGULAR MEETING OF MARCH 21, 1973, THERE WERE NONE AND ON <br />MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER BOGOSIAN, <br />THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES OF MARCH 21, 1973 AS <br />WRITTEN. <br />FRED E. BAKER, JR., PRESIDENT OF THE INDIAN RIVER <br />CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD APPEARED AND PRESENTED A PETITION WITH <br />5,300 SIGNATURES ENDORSING THE 17TH STREET BRIDGE SITE AND THE <br />FOLLOWING RESOLUTION: <br />WHEREAS, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY GOVERNMENTAL BODIES <br />THAT A BRIDGE OVER THE INDIAN RIVER AT 12TH STREET IS NOT FEASIBLE <br />BECAUSE IT WOULD SPAN AN AQUATIC. PRESERVE; AND <br />WHEREAS, THE UNDERSIGNED PETITIONERS KNOW THAT THE <br />WIDENING OF THE MERRILL P. BARBER BRIDGE IN LIEU OF A SECOND <br />BRIDGE WOULD ONLY INCREASE THE PRESENT CONGESTION; AND <br />WHEREAS, NO ALTERNATIVE SITE HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY DISCUSSED <br />OTHER THAN A SECOND BRIDGE AT 17TH STREET; AND <br />WHEREAS, IT HAS BECOME EVIDENT THAT IF IMMEDIATE ACTION <br />IS NOT TAKEN, THE BUDGETED STATE FUNDS WILL BE EXPENDED IN ANOTHER <br />COUNTY; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE UNDERSIGNED PETITIONERS STRONGLY.URGE <br />THE CITY COUNCIL AND COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO IMMEDIATELY APPROVE THE <br />CONSTRUCTION OF A BRIDGE AT 17TH STREET ACROSS THE INDIAN RIVER, AND <br />TO REQUEST THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO COMMENCE CON- <br />opuk M, em -467 <br />
