RESOLUTION NO. 73-27 <br />WHEREAS, traffic congestion between the mainland and <br />the beach over the Merrill P. Barber Bridge in Vero Beach has <br />reached an intolerable level, and <br />WHEREAS, said congestion is imperilliqg the safety of <br />Indian River County citizens and the orderly development of <br />Indian River County, and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indi- <br />an River County have given the construction of a second bridge <br />over the Indian River the highest priority, and <br />WHEREAS, design funds can be allocated only after <br />corridor approval is obtained, and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation's consult- <br />ing engineers have completed an Environmenal Impact Study <br />on six possible locations for the bridge, and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation, after <br />study and public *hearings, has stated that the 17th Street loca- <br />tion is the preferable location, and <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Indian River County have <br />made known to this Board their thoughts and desires as to the <br />location of the second bridge, and <br />WHEREAS, it appears that a majority of the citizens <br />desparately desire a second bridge and most support the 17th <br />Street location, and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Vero Beach <br />Florida, has by resolutions endorsed andwill support the <br />decision of this Board on the bridge location. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board <br />of County Commissioners of Indian River County, that after <br />deliberate consideration and to expedite corridor selection, <br />-3- <br />
