RICHARD THOMAS, TEACHER, REPRESENTING THE INDIAN RIVER <br />SCHOOL BOARD, APPEARED IN SUPPORT OF THIS PURCHASE AND REQUESTED <br />THE BOARD TO MAKE A COMMITMENT TO PURCHASE THIS PROPERTY, <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT SUGGESTED ANOTHER APPRAISAL BE <br />SUBMITTED AND ALSO SUGGESTED THAT INVESTIGATION BE MADE OF OTHER <br />BEACH FRONT PROPERTY THAT MIGHT BE AVAILABLE FOR LESS MONEY. <br />MRS. MORGAN AND MRS. TAYLOR BOTH STATED THAT THEY HAVE <br />INVESTIGATED OTHER BEACH FRONT PROPERTY, BUT TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE, <br />NONE WAS AVAILABLE BUT THIS PARCEL. <br />CHAIRMAN Loy STATED THAT IT IS THE POLICY OF THIS BOARD <br />TO HAVE AN APPRAISAL DONE BY THE BOARD OF REALTORS BEFORE ANY <br />PROPERTY IS PURCHASED. <br />CHAIRMAN LAY ASKED CITY COUNCILMAN DAVID GREGG, IF THE <br />CITY COUNCIL WOULD CONSIDER LETTING THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />COMPLETE THE APPLICATION AND TO DEAL WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA <br />REGARDING THE OBTAINING OF MATCHING FUNDS, <br />COUNCILMAN GREGG STATED THE CITY COUNCIL WOULD LIKE A <br />COMMITMENT FROM THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR $200,000.00 <br />AND THE IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE IS SECURING THE PROPERTY ON A JOINT BASIS. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER MASSEY, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />SIEBERT, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY COMMITTED $200,000.00 TOWARDS THE <br />PURCHASE OF LOTS I THROUGH 4, BLOCK 1, PELICAN COVE SUBDIVISION, <br />SUBJECT TO SECURING FEDERAL MATCHING FUNDS AND ALSO AUTHORIZED <br />ATTORNEY BURCH TO MEET WITH THE ATTORNEY FOR THE CITY OF VERO BEACH <br />TO PREPARE THE NECESSARY PAPERS. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DRITENBAS, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />MASSEY, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THAT THE BOARD PURSUE OTHER BEACH <br />FRONT PROPERTY WITH THE MONEY ALLOCATED, IF THIS PROJECT FALLS THROUGH. <br />.JEAN ROBBINS, REPRESENTING THE GIFFORD CIVIC LEAGUE <br />APPEARED REQUESTING UNIFORMS FOR THE GIFFORD YOUTH RECREATION <br />PROGRAM, STREET LIGHTS AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ETC, <br />CHAIRMAN Loy STATED WE HAVE RECEIVED AN ANNUAL REPORT FROM <br />THE GIFFORD CIVIC LEAGUE REQUESTING IMPROVEMENTS IN THE GIFFORD <br />AREA AND IT IS BEING REVIEWED, IT WILL BE DISCUSSED AT A LATER DATE. <br />THE CHAIRMAN ADVISED MRS. ROBBINS TO WORK OUT EXACTLY WHAT IS <br />NEEDED IN THE WAY OF UNIFORMS, PUT IT IN WRITING AND THEN RETURN. <br />--4- <br />:L 0 <br />
