W 1 o CuBAAT `Qtg�K CIRC ONS ;IND/qN A/Vq Ou�T 'AM ORDINANCE OF INDIAN RIVER FLORIDA, CHANGING THE NAME "COLORED SCHOOL SUBDIVISION" "DOUGLAS SUBDIVISION." 5/98(ord\subdname)Vk COUNTY, OF THE TO THE WHEREAS, Section 177.142, Florida Statutes, allows a county by ordinance to change the name of subdivisions that the Board of County Commissioners determines constitute an ethnic or racial slur; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Wabasso area have requested that the name of the subdivision recorded in Plat Book 2, Page 52, of the public records of Indian River County, be changed from the "Colored School Subdivision" to the "Douglas Subdivision"; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners finds that this change is in the public interest; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: 1. The Board hereby determines that the name the "Colored School Subdivision" constitutes a racial and ethnic slur' and should be changed to the "Douglas Subdivision." 2. The Clerk of the Circuit Court shall place in the margin of the plat a notation that the name has been changed as well as other data as required by law. This ordinance shall take effect upon filing with the Florida Secretary of State. The ordinance was advertised in the Vero Beach Press Journal on the 15 day of May , 1998, for a public hearing to be held on the 26 day of Ma , 1998, at which time it was moved for adoption by Commissioner Adams , seconded by Commissioner Egg ex t , and adopted by the following vote: 1, Chairman John W.
