AN ORDINANCE OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, UPDATING THE STANDARD TECHNICAL <br />CODES TO REFLECT THE LATEST EDITIONS. <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County has adopted standard technical codes <br />for its building codes; and <br />WHEREAS, these technical codes are updated and new additions issued <br />from time to time pursuant to Section 553.73, F.S.; and <br />WHEREAS, the current required updated codes are set forth herein, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, that: <br />SECTION 1. AMENDMENT SECTION 401.01. <br />Section 401.01 is hereby partially amended to reflect deletion of the 1994 <br />editions and the addition of the new editions of the standard technical codes as <br />follows: <br />Standard Building Code (SBC), 1997 Edition' <br />Standard Mechanical Code (SMC), 1997 Edition <br />Standard Gas Code (SGC), 1997 Edition <br />1 Including the engineering design criteria contained in Section 1606 and excluding <br />Chapter 11, "Accessibility for People with Physical Disabilities" and Appendix E, "Energy <br />Conservation". <br />Section 1606 of the Standard Building Code and Section 2313 of the 1996 Revisions of <br />the Standard Building Code for wood frame construction shall be the minimum wind <br />load criteria used for the design of all one and two family dwellings. Compliance with <br />the engineering design criteria contained in Section 1606 may be achieved by using the <br />Southern Building Code Congress International Inc., Standard SSDT 10-96 for <br />Hurricane Resistant Residential Construction, the Wood Products Promotion Council - <br />High Wind Project, Guide to Wood Construction in High Wind Areas "the Builder's <br />Guide", or the Wood Frame Construction Manual for One and Two Family Dwellings, <br />1995 High Wind Edition. The Builders' Guide implementation shall be limited to the <br />construction and design of wood frame single story buildings with wind speed design <br />parameters of 100 and 110 miles per hour. The manual is limited to residential <br />buildings of three stories or less, a mean roof height not exceeding 33 feet and wind <br />speed design parameters between 90 and 120 miles per hour. <br />
