For example, a population with a 5% annual growth <br />rate will double in approximately 14 years <br />Source: U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census University of Florida, Bureau of Economic <br />and Business Research <br />In the seventies, the County's population increased by over 23,000 persons, an average annual rate of <br />5.23%. <br />During the 1980-1990 timeframe, the growth rate of the County slowed to approximately 4.86% per <br />year; however, the numerical increase was the largest recorded. The growth rate slowed further <br />during the 1990-2004 timeframe to approximately 4.05%. <br />Both the State and the Treasure Coast Region have also experienced rapid population growth. Table <br />1.2 provides the population of Indian River County, the Treasure Coast Region and Florida since <br />1960. During this period, the county and region have grown five times in size, with the region <br />slightly outpacing the county.
