ORDINANCE NO, 2003- 043 <br />in, Plastic or metal is prohibited as a finish material for walls or trim. Plastic is <br />prohibited as a finish material for sloped roofs, visible roof structures, and <br />facias. Although prohibited in general, certain metal and plastic <br />construction products may be approved by the planning and zoning <br />commission, upon a written request and product sample submitted by the <br />applicant. The planning and zoning commission may approve use of the <br />material if the following criteria are satisfied: <br />• The product shall appear authentic from the closest distance that it <br />will be viewed by the general public. <br />• The product shall be substantial. Thin and flimsy imitations are <br />unacceptable. <br />• The product shall hold up as well as the product it is imitating. That <br />is, it must be fabricated in such a way that it will retain its original <br />shape, appearance, and color, as well as the product it is imitating. <br />• The product's color shall resemble the color of the product it is <br />imitating. <br />iv. Any exposed masonry in a.stack bond is prohibited. <br />V, Lighting structures or strip lighting that follows the form of the building, <br />parts of the building, or building elements is prohibited. <br />vi. Neon and similar tube and fiber optic lighting and similar linear lighting <br />systems, where the neon or lighting tube or fiber is visible, is prohibited <br />(this restriction includes site signage). <br />vii. Backlit transparent or translucent architectural elements, backlit <br />architectural elements, as well as illuminated or backlit awnings and roof <br />mounted elements are prohibited. This does not prohibit the use of glass <br />blocks. This does not prohibit the use of an illuminated sign attached to a <br />building. <br />viii. Facades that appear to be primarily awnings are prohibited. An awning shall <br />not run continuously for more than thirty (30) percent of the length of any <br />single facade, Gaps between awning segments shall be at least twenty-four <br />(24) inches wide. Placement of awning segments shall relate to building <br />features (e.g. doorways and windows), where possible.
