THE FOLLOWING LETTER RECEIVED FROM GENE MORRIS
TAX COLLECTOR IS BEING MADE A PART OF THESE MINUTES,
3
GENE E. MORRIS
TAX COLLECTOR
TELEPHONEt (8015) 582.2803
P. 0. Box 1509
VERO BEACH, FLORIDA - 32960
January 4, 1974
Miss Alma Lee Loy, Chairman
Board of County Commission
Indian River County Courthouse
Vero Beach, Florida
Dear Miss Loy:
I am sure that you are well aware of the fact that the 1973 Tax Roll
has not been completed at this time, however, you probably do not know
that this presents a problem for me in the operation of my office. I
would like to take this opportunity to explain.
The Tax Collector's Office is a fee office and must be operated on fees
derived from the various services performed, and the Tax Collector's
Office is on a calendar year and must report and distribute all excess
fees as of December 31st each year on or before January 15th of the next
year.
Now, the above situation in normal years is fine because we have generally
earned fees from tax collections in November and December, and by billing
the various taxing districts on December 31st, we r6ceive the necessary funds
to continue the operation of the office in a smooth manner. This year we
have not collected any taxes to date, therefore, no fees have been earned.
In order to continue the operation of the Tax Collector's Office, it will
be necessary for me to either borrow the necessary funds or get an advance
on commissions that will be earned when tax collections begin.
I would like to request an advance in fees or commissions that will be due
on the 1973 Tax Roll"in the amount of $50,000.00. This advance will be
deducted from the statement to you for commissions after taxes have been
collected.
Thanking you for your consideration in this matter, I remain
X
rris
County Tax Collector
GEM/bm
TAXES
Real Estate
Tangible Peronal Property
Intangible Personal Proporty
JAN 9 19,74
MOTOR VEHICLE MISCELLANEOUS
Tags - Duplicate Tataa Boat Registration
Titles - Duplicate Titles Beat Titles
Sales Tax /Urcraft Reglstratton
—34—
Book
LICENSES
Occupational License
Dog Ll -go u nae
19 Phu 49
