1 iL 11 1 1 C L F A lengthy question -and -answer period followed the presentation, during which doubts were raised concerning the need for sewers and for the study in general. Many were concerned that funding would not be available and that they would be assessed an amount that they could not afford. A transcript of the entire meeting is presented in Appendix C. 7.3 PUBLIC SURVEY A septic tank survey was distributed at the public hearing and can be found on Figure 7-3. Of the 124 people responding, 65 were against the project, regardless of the funding situation. Forty-six people were in favor of the project, only if substantial outside funding became available. Thirteen individuals were in favor of the project, regardless of the funding situation. It should be noted that only 29 percent of the households affected responded to the survey. 7.4 FUTURE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ' The County Commission could decide that the project is in the best interest of the community, in which case the County will continue with the program. ' However, there is a possibility that funds may not be available after the system is designed. At that point, the County could fund the project itself, or keep the drawings and specifications ready until construction ' grant funds became available. ' The Commission could also decide to stop the project at this point. The County could use the information gathered in this study for other purposes ' now. In the future, circumstances could change such that there is more support for a sewer project. In that case, the preliminary studies will ' have already been done, and the project can proceed right into design and construction. ' Commission meetings concerning this project will be open to the public. This will allow another opportunity for the public to participate in the decision-making process. ' IRC.VB4 6/4/87 7-4
