Brown <br />Budget Manager <br />Date: June 11, 2003 <br />Subject: Fourth of July Fireworks Funding <br />Budget Amendment 010 <br />Background Information <br />For several years, Indian River County has provided assistance in funding Fourth of July fireworks <br />displays in Vero Beach and Sebastian. The Lions Club of Sebastian has again requested assistance <br />in funding their celebration this year. For many years, the county contributed $2,500 each to <br />Sebastian and Vero Beach. Due to special circumstances, the Board of Commissioners approved <br />funding of $5,000 each to the City of Vero Beach and the Sebastian Lions Club in 2000 and 2001. <br />For 2002, the Board of Commissioners approved $2,500 each to the City of Vero Beach and the <br />Sebastian Lions Club. <br />Alternatives <br />Alternative 1 - Approve funding for both the City of Vero Beach and the Lions Club of Sebastian in <br />the amount of $2,500 each. These contributions should be used for funding Fourth of <br />July celebrations only. The City of Vero Beach and the City of Sebastian must <br />expend a matching amount of $2,500 each before County funds may be released. <br />Funding will be provided by M.S.T.U. contingencies. <br />Alternative 2 - Deny funding Fourth of July fireworks display. <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends Alternative 1, whereby the Board of Commissioners approves funding fireworks for <br />the Cities of Sebastian and Vero Beach. Staff recommends that each of the cities (Vero Beach and <br />Sebastian) appropriate and pay an equal amount up to $2,500 and the County will match that amount, <br />up to $2,500 each, after the City of Vero Beach and Sebastian pay their share. <br />Staff further recommends that the Board of Commissioners approve the attached Budget Amendment <br />010 and resolution amending the fiscal year 2002/2003 budget. <br />Attachments <br />Budget Amendment 010 <br />Letter from Lions Club of Sebastian, Inc. <br />APPROVED AGENDA ITEM: <br />BY: <br />James E.
