RESOLUTION NO. 2008=014 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, DECLARING THE FORMAL <br />RECOGNITION OF THE WEST WABASSO <br />COMMUNITY NEIGHBORHOOD. <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of this resolution is to formally recognize <br />the importance of preserving the existing character of the streetscape and <br />community referred to as "West Wabasso" which is defined geographically as the <br />area west of 58th Avenue, east of 66th Avenue, south of the Sebastian city limits, <br />and north of 82nd Street; and <br />WHEREAS, the West Wabasso community is an historic African <br />American residential neighborhood dating back to the 1880s; and <br />WHEREAS, the site design of a structure in an area is an essential <br />part of its character. This design includes the streetscape in which the structure <br />is set, setbacks, driveways, walkways, retaining walls and fences, the way a <br />structure sits on its lot in relation to other structures and the street, and other <br />landscaping elements; and <br />WHEREAS, certain common characteristics of West Wabasso and <br />its structures define the character of the community and should be considered by <br />planning officials with regard to proposed developments in the area, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the <br />Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County by this Resolution <br />formally recognizes the effort of the West Wabasso community to preserve and <br />fortify their heritage, historical significance, and the character of the community. <br />1 <br />F:\Attorney\Nancy\DOCS\RES\west wabasso community neighborhood.doc <br />
