RESOLUTION NO. 2001-023 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br /> FLORIDA. SUPPORTING INCREASED FUNDING FOR <br /> REGIONAL PLANNING COUNCILS. <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br /> Florida strongly supports adequate funding of regional planning councils in the State of <br /> Florida; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br /> Florida recognizes that regional planning councils are required to perform numerous <br /> state-mandated economic development, growth management, emergency <br /> management, technical assistance, interlocal dispute resolution functions, and other <br /> important statutory duties directed by the Legislature; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br /> Florida recognizes that regional planning councils also provide a wide range of services <br /> and assistance in support of local government initiatives and programs; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br /> Florida believes the State is disproportionately relying on local dues and revenue from <br /> local government to support regional planning councils which has resulted in the <br /> reduction of many regional and local programs and initiatives; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br /> Florida believes the State's responsibility for supporting regional planning councils <br /> should be increased and shared more equally between the State and its local <br /> governments. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONER OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA: <br /> Section 1: The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br /> Florida hereby requests the Legislature support the Florida Regional Councils <br /> Association budget request for recurring funding for regional planning councils as a $3.0 <br /> million line item in the Department of Community Affairs base budget. <br />
