RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 046 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br /> FLORIDA, TO SUPPORT THE DREDGING AND <br /> MAINTENANCE'TO COMPLETE THE NAVIGATION <br /> CHANNEL CONNECTING THE INTRACOASTAL <br /> WATERWAY TO THE SEBASTIAN INLET AND THE <br /> ATLANTIC OCEAN. <br /> WHEREAS, the Intracoastal Waterway extends for 23 miles <br /> through Indian River County to the Sebastian Inlet at the northern county line <br /> where the inlet provides the only waterway access to the Atlantic Ocean in the <br /> county; and <br /> WHEREAS, an analysis of the total economic value of maintained <br /> Waterways in Indian River County demonstrated a significant annual economic <br /> impact on business volume, personal income, jobs and over $724 million in <br /> property values; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Sebastian Inlet provides the opportunity for safe <br /> passage and harbor and serves to stimulate the economy of Indian River County <br /> as well as supports rich ecological diversity and quality of the Indian River <br /> Lagoon System; and <br /> WHEREAS, a deepened and widened, designated channel, <br /> between the Intracoastal Waterway through Sebastian Inlet will protect adjacent <br /> environmental resources, increase flushing of the Indian River Lagoon and <br /> further the preservation and stimulation of the marine related economy while <br /> providing enhanced boating safety. <br />
