CHAIRMAN SIEBERT INFORMED THE BOARD OF THE RECEIPT OF A RESOLU- <br />TION FROM THE VETERANS COUNCIL OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY IN REGARD TO ERECTING <br />A GRANDSTAND AT MEMORIAL PARK, WHICH RESOLUTION IS HEREBY MADE A PART OF <br />THE MINUTES. <br />RESOLUTION NO.776 -/ <br />WHEREAS, the Veterans' Council of Indian River County, <br />,Florida, representing all of the veterans groups of said county, <br />is desirous of a better utilization of the area in the City of <br />Vero Beach known and designated as Memorial Park, in order that <br />greater participation by the public may be facilitated in the <br />observance of various patriotic occasions; and <br />WHEREAS, the vision and foresight of previous citizens, <br />particularly the Honorable Alex MacWilliam, Sr., brought into <br />existence the said Memorial Park, not only as a place for the <br />assembling of the public to commemorate principle holidays <br />dedicated to the commemoration of those who have participated in <br />the wars in which this country has been engaged but to further a <br />greater degree of participation among all the people; and <br />WHEREAS, it is vital that a grandstand be erected and that <br />permanent seats for the public be constructed and that proper <br />maintenance.and care of said Memorial Park be done; and <br />WHEREAS, it appears that the City of Vero Beach and Indian <br />River County are going to be the recipients of a considerable amount <br />of money from the federal government by reason of the passage of <br />the bill by Congress appropriating money for public improvements, <br />not only for the enjoyment of the public, but also to provide <br />employment for many people now out of work; - <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Veterans' Council of <br />Indian River County, Florida, that it does hereby -urge the Board <br />of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida and/or the <br />City Council of the City of Vero Beach, Florida to include in their <br />application and use of the funds available to said bodies the <br />development and greater use of Memorial Park, and we do urge said <br />bodies to recognize the need and the necessity for the recognition <br />of patriotic observances and the good that will accrue to .the <br />community from having within it a park set aside for such <br />purposes and as a lasting memorial in appreciation of the sacrifices <br />made by veterans of Indian River County and of the United States <br />in defending the country in the various wars in which we have <br />i <br />been engaged. <br />C12 01976 Book a'%' :, 14 <br />
