a . <br /> RESOLUTION 2008 - 112 <br /> A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY , <br /> FLORIDA , SETTING FORTH THE POLICY FOR <br /> APPOINTING "AT LARGE " MEMBERS TO ADVISORY <br /> COMMITTEES . <br /> WHEREAS , the Board of County Commissioners is empowered to create <br /> advisory committees to provide advice and information concerning various topics <br /> that affect County government ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the advisory committees are made up of hard working and <br /> diligent volunteers that are appointed to their positions by the Board or by the <br /> governing body of other municipalities ; and <br /> WHEREAS , many of the committees have " at large " committee members <br /> that are appointed by the Board ; and <br /> WHEREAS , it is the will of the Board to create written policy that should be <br /> followed when . a vacancy of an " at large " committee member occurs ; and <br /> WHEREAS , it is in the best interest of orderly government to have the <br /> policy reduced to writing , <br /> NOW , THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED , BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY , FLORIDA that : <br /> 1 . "At large " advisory committee members shall be appointed by the <br /> Board of County Commissioners unless the committee ' s founding <br /> resolution , ordinance or statute provides for another method of <br /> appointment . <br /> 2 . In the event of a vacancy of an " at large " committee member , the <br /> vacancy shall be listed on the next available agenda for the Board <br /> of County Commissioners under the topic " Informational Items from <br /> Staff or Commissioners not requiring Board Action " of the agenda . <br /> 3 . After the vacancy appears in the agenda and is read by the <br /> Chairman , the Board may appoint a candidate to fill the position no <br /> sooner than fourteen days following the reading of the vacancy . <br /> 4 . In the event that more than one candidate is nominated for the <br /> vacancy , the Board shall fill the vacancy by a majority vote . <br />
