SMITH NEXT REVIEWED MODIFICATION N0, 1 TO THE 1972 <br />AGREEMENT, NOTING THAT THIS CALLS FOR THE COMPLETE JOB - RENOVATIONS <br />j AND EXTENSIONS TO THE WATER SUPPLY SYSYTEM AND CONSTRUCTION OF SEW- <br />AGE TREATMENT AND/OR TRANSMISSION AND DISPOSAL FACILITIES FOR THE <br />GIFFORD AREA. DR. SMITH EXPLAINED THAT THE FIRST PHASE OF THIS WORK <br />WOULD INVOLVE RENOVATING OR REPLACING THE METERS, TESTING THE DISTRI- <br />BUTION SYSTEM, REPAIRING OR REPLACING PIPES, FLUSHING THE LINES, AND <br />GENERALLY PLACING THE SYSTEM IN DECENT WORKABLE CONDITION, HE CON- <br />TINUED THAT THE SECOND PHASE WOULD INVOLVE A PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING <br />STUDY TO CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL OF <br />WASTE WATER FROM THE SEWAGE SYSTEM, AND THE THIRD PHASE WOULD BE TO <br />LAY OUT PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING FOR EXTENSIONS TO THE SYSTEM AND TO <br />COST OUT THESE ESTIMATES IN ORDER TO BE PREPARED TO UTILIZE THE TOTAL <br />GRANT AND LOAN MONIES AVAILABLE TO THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT IN ORDER TO <br />OBTAIN THE GREATEST NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS. DR, SMITH INFORMED THE BOARD THAT <br />EXECUTION OF THIS MODIFICATION PROPOSAL WILL AUTHORIZE THE ENGINEERS <br />TO PROCEED AT ONCE WITH THE PRELIMINARY REPORT WHICH IS TO BE COMPLETED <br />BY OCTOBER 21ST AND SUBMITTED TO FHA, <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER Loy, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />DEESON, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE PROPOSAL MADE BY THE COUNTY <br />CONSULTING ENGINEERS AND AUTHORIZED THE CHAIRMAN TO EXECUTE MODIFICA- <br />TION NUMBER ONE "AGREEMENT FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES,' FHA FORM 442-19. <br />
