RESOLUTION NO, 2014-005 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO <br />ADOPT AND THE GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT TO <br />SUPPORT HOUSE BILL 1289 TO GRANT THE PUBLIC <br />SERVICE COMMISSION JURISDICTION OVER THE <br />RATES, CHARGES AND SERVICE FOR THOSE SERVED <br />BY THE CITY OF VERO BEACH ELECTRIC UTILITY; <br />AND DIRECTING CERTIFIED COPIES OF THIS <br />RESOLUTION TO BE PROVIDED TO VARIOUS <br />OFFICIALS. <br />WHEREAS, House Bill 1289 will allow the rates, charges and service for those <br />N <br />ustomers of the City of Vero Beach electric utility who reside outside of the City's boundaries <br />to become subject to the full rate setting jurisdiction of the Public Service Commission; and <br />WHEREAS, over sixty percent of the customers of the City of Vero Beach electric <br />utility reside outside of the City of Vero Beach in the unincorporated parts of Indian River <br />County or in the Town of Indian River Shores; and <br />WHEREAS, these residents have no representation in the setting of the rates and charges <br />and are subject to the decisions of a council that they do not elect; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, THAT: <br />Section 1. The above "WHEREAS" clauses are true and correct, and are hereby adopted <br />as findings of the Board. <br />Section 2. The Board urges the State Administration and Florida Legislature to support <br />House Bill 1289 so that the rates and charges and service for those customers who reside outside <br />of the City of Vero Beach who are served by the City of Vero Beach electric utility will be <br />subject to the jurisdiction of the Public Service Commission. <br />Section 3. A certified copy of this resolution shall be provided to the Govern <br />or Rick <br />Scott, the Speaker of the House, the President of the Senate and the Indian River County <br />Legislative Delegation. <br />The foregoing resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner z o r c ,and <br />seconded by Commissioner S o 1 a r i ,and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as <br />follows: <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
