1
NOV 17 19 ® /
ALDIS P. BUTLER
Vrn(I Br. elf. FLORIDA 32960
November 16, 1977
Honorable William C. Wodtke, Chairman
Indian River County Board of County Commissioners,
County Court House
Vero Beach, Florida 32960
Dear Bill,
I am taking the liberty of writing you as a private
citizen, because I cannot attend the hearing on the subject
of a 2 A.M. lounge closing. I am in favor of the request.
My reasoning is probably not unique.
I am sure any such request will be opposed by some on
moral, religious or other grounds and though I respect their
opinion I cannot see how a 1 hour extension makes the whole
subject.of lounges, etc., any less savory.
I am also aware, and glad of, the conservative nature
of our community. One viewpoint in support of our conser-
vative citizenery I expect, may oppose the extension and reject
the businessmen involved on the basis of their knowledge
of what type of community we were when they entered business.
But I do believe that what yesterday may have seemed simply
conservative could well, in this changing world, today be
discriminatory.
In some I do believe that lounge hours with a 2 A.M.
closing is a reasonable request in a sophisticated community
growing with the changing times. I do not truly see why our
business people should be put at disadvantage because of their
location a few miles north of a neighboring county line,
particularly when the whole subject of lounge patrionage is
so much a matter of personal choice and behavior in any event.
Respectfully you
1
PB•1
A . s
cc: Attorney Sam Block
Y
BOOK 32 PAGE
1
.
,
NOV 17 19 ® /
ALDIS P.
