RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 032 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN -RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, <br />FINDING THAT THE SALE OF THE BLOCK PROPERTY IS IN <br />THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE CITIZENS OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA . <br />WHEREAS, the County acquired the 32 acre Block Property consisting %J two <br />parcels of property located on the western shore of the Indian River Lagoon adjacent to <br />Hobart Landing subdivision and 79th Street in Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, the County acquired the Block Property from the St. Johns River <br />Water Management District after the District declared the property to be surplus; and <br />WHEREAS, it was the intention of St. Johns to convey the Block Property to the <br />County and in turn, the County would convey the Block Property to the Indian River <br />.and Trust, Inc. (Land Trust). The Land Trust will pay to the County $85,743.09 for the <br />Block Property and the County, will in turn, pay that sum to St. Johns; and <br />WHEREAS, the Block Property contains estuarine wetlands and a portion of a <br />mosquito impoundment and is located directly adjacent to property owned and <br />managed by the Indian River Land Trust; and <br />WHEREAS the Land Trust has requested the Board of County Commissioners <br />convey the Block Property to the Land Trust for use in combination with its adjacent <br />property for passive recreation and conservation activities open to the public; and ' <br />WHEREAS, the Land Trust will maintain the Block Property and associated <br />improvements; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners finds that such a use of County <br />property promotes the County interests Cl"d welfare; and <br />WHEREAS, the Land Trust is organized to ~promote the preservation, <br />conservation and improvement of Indian River County's natural resources and special <br />places for the benefit of the general public and future generations. The Land Trust is a <br />charitable Florida non-profit corporation and educational entity for purposes set forth in <br />section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended; <br />WHEREAS, the County has no use for the Block Propert <br />y and does not desire to <br />maintain the property; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of citizens <br />of Indian River County to sell this property to the Land Trust; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that: <br />1 <br />
