THE CHAIRMAN NEXT DISCUSSED APPOINTMENTS TO A HOUSING <br />STUDY COMMITTEE AND STATED THAT HE WOULD LIKE COMMISSIONER SIEBERT TO <br />BE CHAIRMAN OF THIS COMMITTEE. HE CONTINUED THAT HE HAD TALKED WITH <br />MAYOR SCURLOCK, WHO ADVI'SED HIM THAT THE CITY OF VERO BEACH WOULD NOT <br />BE PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN HAVING ANYONE FROM THE CITY INVOLVED <br />WITH THE STUDY OF A HOUSING AUTHORITY. CHAIRMAN WODTKE NOTED THAT THE <br />REQUEST FOR THIS STUDY CAME FROM THE GIFFORD AREA, AND HE RECOMMENDED <br />LEON YOUNG•AND DOROTHEA MCGRIFF TO SERVE ON THE COMMITTEE. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT REQUESTED THAT THE COMMITTEE BE MADE UP <br />OF NO MORE THAN SEVEN MEMBERS, AND PREFERABLY LESS. HE FELT THERE <br />'SHOULD BE ONE MEMBER FROM THE ZONING BOARD, SOMEONE REPRESENTING THE <br />FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND SOMEONE REPRESENTING THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, <br />INCLUDING REALTORS, ETC. <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE FELT THAT MR. REGAN COULD BE AN EX -OFFICIO <br />MEMBER AND HELP COORDINATE THE STUDY AND ASSIST IN WRITING A REPORT. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT NOTED THAT THE COMMITTEE MUST DECIDE <br />IF IT IS IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THIS COUNTY TO RECOMMEND THAT A <br />HOUSING AUTHORITY BE ESTABLISHED. HE STATED HE WOULD LIKE TO SEE US <br />ADVISE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH NEWS RELEASES, POSSIBLY EVEN A PAID <br />ADVERTISEMENT, THAT WE ARE CONSIDERING LOW COST HOUSING, AND THEN PER- <br />HAPS SOME PRIVATE SECTOR WILL COME BEFORE THE COMMITTEE TO HELP DETERMINE <br />IF THERE ARE ANY ALTERNATIVES. <br />COMMISSIONER Loy CONCURRED THAT WE SHOULD EXPLORE THE POSSI= <br />BILITY OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR, AND THE CHAIRMAN AGREED THAT THE COMMITTEE <br />SHOULD STUDY NOT ONLY A HOUSING AUTHORITY, BUT ALSO THE ALTERNATIVES. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT STATED THAT ONCE THIS COMMITTEE IS <br />ESTABLISHED AND WE CAN GET A REPRESENTATIVE OF FHA DOWN- HERE, HE FELT <br />THEY SHOULD MEET NIGHTLY, IF NECESSARY, SO THAT SOMETHING CAN BE <br />ACCOMPLISHED QUICKLY. HE POINTED OUT THAT IF IT IS DECIDED THAT A <br />HOUSING AUTHORITY IS NECESSARY AND IT IS AGREED TO PETITION THE GOVERNOR, <br />FROM THAT POINT ON, IT IS OUT OF THE COUNTY'S HANDS. COMMISSIONER <br />SIEBERT SUGGESTED THAT THE CHAIRMAN BE GIVEN AUTHORITY TO APPOINT REPRE- <br />SENTATIVES FROM THE DISCUSSED CATEGORIES IN BETWEEN MEETINGS SO WE CAN <br />GET SOMETHING GOING BY THE NEXT MEETING AND THEN FORMALLY APPOINT THEM <br />AT THAT TIME. <br />FEB 81978 BOOK 33 PACE 49 1 <br />
