GENE WADDELL, PRESIDENT OF KIWANIS CLUB OF VERO-TREASURE <br />COAST, WHICH HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FIVE YEARS AND HAS APPROXIMATELY <br />60 MEMBERS, INFORMED THE BOARD THAT TO THIS DATE THEY HAVE NOT CHOSEN <br />A LONG-TERM CONTINUING PROJECT, FEELING THAT AT SOME POINT THE AIR <br />FORCE TRACKING STATION SITE ON.NORTH AIA WOULD REVERT TO THE COUNTY <br />TO BE DEVELOPED AS A PARK. MR. WADDELL STATED THAT THEY NOW FEEL IT <br />IS.THE PROPER TIME TO COME FORWARD AND INDICATE THEIR DESIRE TO WORK <br />WITH THE COUNTfY IN*DEVELOPING THIS LAND. HE FELT THAT THIS MIGHT <br />SERVE TO SHOW THE AUTHORITIES THAT THERE IS BACKING FOR DEVELOPING' <br />THIS AS A PUBLIC PARK AND BEACH ACCESS AND ALSO TELL THEM THAT WE <br />BELIEVE WE WILL EVENTUALLY GET THIS LAND, WHICH MIGHT HELP BREAK <br />THE BOTTLENECK. MR. WADDELL CONTINUED THAT THE VERO TREASURE COAST <br />KIWANIS CLUB WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH THE BOARD IN PLANNING AND SECURING <br />FUNDS TO DEVELOP THIS SITE AND WOULD IMPLEMENT THE PLANS USING KIWANIS <br />CLUB MAN HOURS. HE SUGGESTED THAT THE BOARD APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO <br />DESIGN A MASTER PLAN FOR THE PARK SO_THAT WHEN THE PARK IS RELEASED, <br />THE PLAN WILL BE READY. <br />COMMISSIONER-LOY STATED THAT THE BOARD IS MOST APPRECIATIVE <br />OF A GROUP SUCH AS THIS WANTING TO TAKE THIS ON AS A PROJECT. SHE <br />NOTED THAT THE STATUS ON PROGRESS TOWARDS OBTAINING THIS LAND HAS NOT <br />CHANGED LATELY, BUT FELT IT IS A FOREGONE CONCLUSION THAT SOME DAY THE <br />\ PARK WILL BELONG TO THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTY, AND SHE CERTAINLY WOULD <br />LIKE TO ACCEPT THE CLUBS OFFER. COMMISSIONER LOY NOTED THAT THERE WAS <br />A MASTER PLAN DONE FOR THIS SITE IN ABOUT 1969, BUT IT DEFINITELY NEEDS <br />TO BE. UPDATED. <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE NOTED THAT THIS COMMUNITY HAS ALWAYS BEEN <br />BLESSED WITH GREAT CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS WHO HELP TREMENDOUSLY, AND HE <br />LIKED THE IDEA OF DEVELOPING A COMPLETE MASTER PLAN WHICH WILL HELP <br />MAKE THIS PARK ACCEPTABLE TO THE SURROUNDING AREA, <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT NOTED THAT THE BOARD IS EXTREMELY BUSY <br />WITH BUDGET AND PROPERTY APPRAISAL ADJUSTMENT, ETC., AND SUGGESTED <br />THAT MR. WADDELL CONSULT WITH THE TOWN OF INDIAN RIVER SHORES, INFORM <br />THEM THAT THE BOARD DID ACCEPT THE OFFER OF THE KIWANIS CLUB AND WILL <br />APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO WORK ON A MASTER PLAN POSSIBLY AT THE END OF <br />SEPTEMBER. <br />3 <br />POGP6 36 PAGF <br />AUG n 91978 <br />
