MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1978 <br />THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, MET IN SPECIAL SESSION AT THE COURTHOUSE, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA, <br />ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1978, AT 1:00 O'CLOCK P.M. PRESENT WERE <br />WILLIAM C. WODTKE, JR., CHAIRMAN; ALMA LEE Loy, VICE CHAIRMAN; WILLARD <br />W. SIEBERT, .JR.; EDWIN S. SCHMUCKER; AND R. DON DEESON. ALSO PRESENT <br />WERE .TACK G. .JENNINGS, COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR; NEIL NELSON, ASSISTANT <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR; AND VIRGINIA ^HARGREAVES, DEPUTY CLERK. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ANNOUNCED THAT <br />THIS MEETING IS HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF INTERVIEWING CONSULTANTS IN <br />REGARD TO RENOVATION OF THE HOSPITAL,AND FOUR DIFFERENT FIRMS WILL BE <br />INTERVIEWED AT DIFFERENT HOURS DURING THE AFTERNOON. <br />THE FIRST FIRM TO BE INTERVIEWED WAS THE FIRM OF CONNELL, <br />METCALF & EDDY. <br />.JOHN SCHLITT, JR., ARCHITECT, CAME BEFORE THE BOARD TO <br />INTRODUCE STEVEN LITTLE AND RON SING OF CONNELL, METCALF & EDDY. <br />ARCHITECT STEVEN LITTLE GAVE THE FIRST PRESENTATION, STATING <br />THAT HE HAS BEEN IN FLORIDA SINCE 1953 AS A PERMANENT RESIDENT AND HAS <br />BEEN WITH THE COMPANY 17 YEARS. THE COMPANY WAS FOUNDED IN 1919 AND <br />IS NOW A FULL—SERVICE ENGINEERING FIRM WITH 132 EMPLOYEES. -THEIR MAIN <br />OFFICE IS IN CORAL GABLES, AND APPROXIMATELY 67 OF THEIR EMPLOYEES <br />ARE REGISTERED ENGINEERS OR ARCHITECTS. MR. LITTLE STATED THAT THEY <br />HAVE EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN DEALING WITH BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE <br />CLIENTELE. HE CONTINUED THAT 80% OF THEIR BUSINESS IS IN FLORIDA, AND <br />THEY HAVE BRANCH OFFICES IN CAPE CORAL AND ORLANDO. MR. LITTLE INFORMED <br />THE.BOARD THAT THEIR MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNMENTAL BUILDING <br />WAS DEVELOPMENT OF A PROGRAM TO DETERMINE THE SPACE NEEDS FOR A NEW <br />ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI AND TO PLACE THE CITY <br />b IN A POSITION TO QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL FUNDS. MR. LITTLE PRESENTED THE <br />BAORD WITH A COPY OF THE REPORT DONE FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI, WHICH WAS <br />BOTH DEVELOPED FOR IMMEDIATE NEEDS AND PROJECTED FOR 20 YEARS. HE <br />THEN SPOKE OF THE DIFFICULTY IN HOUSING ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES AND <br />FELT THE PURCHASE OF THE HOSPITAL WAS A GIANT STEP FORWARD FOR THE <br />COUNTY. MR. LITTLE CONTINUED THAT THEIR FIRM WAS ENGAGED BY THE <br />STATE OF FLORIDA TO DO A SITE LOCATION AND SPACE NEEDS PROGRAM FOR <br />UT 91978 36 FAGF 457 <br />
