WILLIAM WODTKE, CHAIRMAN
THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
2145 FOURTEENTH AVENUE
VERO BEACH, FLORIDA 32960
DEAR MR. WODTgE
I AM REFERRING TO THE LETTER WHICH YOU WROTE TO MR. WILLIE
POOLE, P. 0. BOX 643, SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA ON JULY 06, 1978.
MR. POOLE CAME TO MY OFFICE RECENTLY QUITE CONCERNED ABOUT
THE LETTER AND WANTED A LETTER ASSURING THAT HIS PHYSICAL
CONDITION WILL ALLOW HIM TO SAFELY HANDLE A FIREARM. -
MR. POOLE HAS HAD A CEREBRAL VASCULAR ACCIDENT AND HAS BEEN
ENCOURAGED TO WALK TO TOLERANCE IN ORDER TO REDEVELOP HI$.
MUSCLES TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. AT THE PRESENT
TIME, HIS WALKING CONSISTS OF LONG WALKS IN (HE -VERY EARLY
MORNING BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME HEAT LATER IN,_THE DAY.. RE-
CENTLY MR, POOLE, WHO WALKS ALONG THE HIGHWAY;' BOTH NORTH
_ AND SOUTH OF WABASSO, HAS BEEN ATTACKED BY LARGE DOGS AND
APPARENTLY THIS IS THE REASON THAT -HE WANTS THE FIREARM.
I AM NOT SO CONCERNED WITH HIS.ABILITY TO HANDLE A GUN SAFE-
LY, AS I'M SURE HIS COORDINATION IS ADEQUATE FOR THIS. HOW—
EVER, I AM GREATLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE
SITUATION AS IT APPEARS. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THER9 4S SOME
• WAY THAT'THIS COULD BE HANDLED WITipIOUT RESORTING'TO PHYSICAL
DAMAGE TO ANYONE OR ANYTHING, EVEN THOUGH MR. POOLE DOES
HAVE SOME DOG BITES ON HIS ARM AT THE PRESENT TIME•
I AM FORWARDING A COPY OF THIS LETTER TO THE SHERIFF'S DE-
PARTMENT IN THE HOPE THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOME WAY THAT THIS
COULD BE HANDLED WITHOUT MR. POOLE'S HAVING TO RESORT TO
DRASTIC MEASURES.
THAI MAY
UBEEOF ANYHFOR SERVICE,,RDOTNOTTION TO HESITATEHIS SITUATION AND
TO -CONTACT ME.
IF I ,
SINCERELY!,
CHARLES F.
