IN REGARD TO TRAFFIC PROBLEMS, MR. PADGETT FELT THE NEW BRIDGE WILL <br />EASILY HANDLE ANY TRAFFIC THIS AREA WILL GENERATE, AND HE, THEREFORE, <br />FELT THIS ALSO IS ANOTHER FALSE ISSUE. MR. PADGETT STATED THAT THE <br />REAL ISSUE IS SUMMED UP IN THE STATEMENT, "NOW THAT I AM HERE, LET'S <br />CLOSE THE GATE." <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE ASKED IF ANYONE PRESENT WISHED TO SPEAK IN <br />FAVOR OF THE CHANGE PROPOSED BY THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION. <br />THERE WERE NONE. <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE THEN OPENED THE FLOOR TO THOSE IN OPPOSITION <br />TO THE PROPOSAL.. <br />NORMAN L. CRAWFORD OF 13 DOLPHIN DRIVE CAME FORWARD AND <br />STATED THAT HE REPRESENTS THE VERO BEACH CIVIC ASSOCIATION, WHICH HAS <br />A MEMBERSHIP OF ABOUT 1,400, AND SEVERAL OTHER HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATIONS <br />THAT HAVE BANDED TOGETHER. HE NOTED AT THE LAST ANNUAL MEETING OF THE <br />CIVIC ASSOCIATION, CHAIRMAN WODTKE ADDRESSED THEIR MEMBERS AND STATED <br />THAT THE COUNTY COMMISSION WELCOMES INPUT FROM THE RESIDENTS OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THE COMMISSION CAN LEARN <br />THEIR WISHES. MR. CRAWFORD REQUESTED THAT THE BOARD OBSERVE ALL THOSE <br />PRESENT AND NOTE THAT THEY ARE ALL OPPOSED TO THE PROPOSED CHANGES IN <br />ITEMS #7 AND #9. HE THEN PRESENTED A PETITION IN OPPOSITION CONTAINING <br />300 SIGNATURES TO BE ADDED TO THE PETITIONS BEARING APPROXIMATELY 1,300 <br />SIGNATURES PRESENTED AT PREVIOUS HEARINGS. ALL THE PETITIONS ARE <br />ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK. 11R. CRAWFORD NOTED THAT THE PLANNING <br />AND ZONING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED THAT THE PLAN BE CHANGED IN AREA 9 <br />AND AN AREA SET ASIDE TO BE ZONED COMMERCIAL IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT <br />NO ONE SPOKE IN FAVOR OF SUCH A CHANGE EXCEPT THE DEVELOPER. HE FURTHER <br />NOTED THAT AT THE END OF THE HEARING, ONE OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING <br />BOARD MEMBERS STATED THAT REGARDLESS OF'WHAT THE PEOPLE FELT ABOUT <br />CHANGING THE PLAN, THIS IS WHAT•THEY GET. <br />CARROLL WALTERS, OF PORPOISE POINT HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION, <br />8 NEXT TOOK THE FLOOR AND READ FROM A PREPARED STATEMENT, WHICH STATED <br />THAT 100% OF THEIR ASSOCIATION IS OPPOSED TO THE REQUESTED CHANGE IN <br />THE LAND USE PLAN, WHICH WILL AFFECT THEM PERSONALLY. IT NOTED THEY <br />WERE REASSURED BY THE ZONING LAWS AND WANT THESE STANDARDS UPHELD TO <br />• PRESERVE THE NATURAL BEAUTY AND QUIET ATMOSPHERE OF THE AREA AND URGED <br />7 <br />OCT 2 61978 <br />I <br />
