Our Emergency Medical Service units (6) at this time have only one channel (155.160 MF <br />VHFfor comrwii.cation with the hospitals (2). <br />B. That same channel is.also used for dispatch and control of the EMS units, <br />C. A pxnwing population with its attendant increase in traffic and traffic accidents mean <br />more emergency medical calls and a marked increase in radio traffic. <br />D. Present communications system could not handle a medical disaster. <br />E. This county's EMS units cannot talk to emergency facilities in neighboring counties <br />either on transfers or if they, are called to assist in those areas. Units from other <br />areas cannot contact local emergency facilities. <br />F. We are now operating with six units covering 506 square miles, 25 miles of Interstate - <br />95 and 31 miles of the Florida Turnpike most of which lie just outside the western <br />border of this county. Average response time in the eastern part of the county is <br />seven minutes, in the western part 35 minutes. <br />G. Indian River County has two hospitals each of which has its own ICU and CCU.
