RESOLUTION NO. 79-17 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, herein call the "Applicant", after thorough consideration <br />of the problem and available data, has hereby determined that the <br />continuation of the project described below is in the best interests <br />of the general public. <br />The continuance of the Youth Aid Bureau in order to deal more <br />efficiently and progressively with the juvenile offender. The " <br />Bureau will continue to utilize the services of two trained law <br />enforcement officers to work with other juvenile justice and <br />law enforcement agencies in the prevention and diversion of <br />juvenile delinquency. The Indian River County Sheriff's Depart- <br />ment has employed the officers, and will be directly responsible <br />for their administration of this project. <br />The officers are working out of the Sheriff's Department on <br />separate but overlapping shifts, and are receiving agents for <br />juvenile referrals to law enforcement throughout the county. <br />They are available to other community agencies for advice in <br />establishing youth programs, and conduct educational programs <br />concerning criminal justice in the schools and community. <br />They work closely with the Department of Health and Rehabili- <br />tation Service intake counselors and youth probation officers. <br />Files are maintained on each child with whom they come in con- <br />tact, and officers are available to parents for consultation <br />concerning juvenile crime. <br />WHEREAS, under terms of Public Law 90-351, as amended, the United States <br />of America has authorized the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, <br />through the Florida Bureau of Criminal Justice Planning and Assistance, <br />to make Federal Grants to assist local governments in the improvement of <br />criminal justice; and <br />' WHEREAS, the'Applicant has examined and duly considered such Act and <br />the Applicant.considers it to be in the public interest and to its <br />benefit to file an application under said Act and to authorize other <br />action in connection therewith; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN OPEN MEETING ASSEMBLED IN THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />COURTHOUSE, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA, THE 7th DAY OF February , 1979, <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br />PAGE ONE OF THREE <br />I <br />
