THE CHAIRMAN NOTED THAT THE RATES BEING CHARGED, <br />$7.10 FOR THE FIRST 2,000 GALLONS AND $1.50.FOR EACH ADDITIONAL 1,000 <br />GALLONS, ARE 1& ABOVE THE RATES URBAN DEVELOPMENT UTILITIES TRIED TO <br />IMPLEMENT IN 1976 IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THEIR WATER SYSTEM - NOT TO IMPROVE <br />THE SEWER. THE CHAIRMAN CONTINUED THAT THESE RATES WERE SET BY FHA AND <br />ARE TIED INTO THE NEXT PHASE OF THE EXPANSION. IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO <br />COME UP WITH ANOTHER 300 CUSTOMERS TO JUSTIFY THE EXPANSION. HE, THERE- <br />FORE, DID NOT.FEEL IT IS TIMELY TO TRY TO GET THE FHA TO REEVALUATE. <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE FELT SURE THERE ARE SOME HOMES THAT DO HAVE LEAKS, <br />POSSIBLY RESULTING FROM THE ADDITIONAL PRESSURE CAUSED BY THE NEW ELEVATED <br />STORAGE TANK. THE CHAIRMAN EXPLAINED HOW JUST ONE TOILET STICKING AND <br />RUNNING CONSTANTLY CAN INCREASE A BILL TREMENDOUSLY, HE ALSO DISCUSSED <br />THE POSSIBILITY OF SOMEONE USING A HOSE ATTACHED TO ANOTHER IS HOUSE. <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE REITERATED THAT THE UTILITY DEPARTMENT WILL BE GLAD TO <br />CHECK THE METERS TO SEE IF THEY ARE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, BUT NOTED THAT <br />EVERY METER IN THE SYSTEM WAS REPLACED EITHER WITH A NEW METER OR A <br />COMPLETELY REBUILT ONE. <br />ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR NELSON INFORMED THOSE PRESENT THAT HE <br />WOULD BE HAPPY TO GO OVER EACH ACCOUNT INDIVIDUALLY WITH MR. LUNDY WITH <br />THE LATEST METER READINGS SO HE CAN SEE THE PROGRESSION OF THE USE OF <br />THE WATER, <br />SIR. LUNDY STATED THAT SOME OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE COM- <br />PLAINED HAVE TRIED TO GET SOME INFORMATION, AND HE BELIEVED THEY HAVE <br />BEEN GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT STATED THAT HE FOUND THAT DIFFICULT TO <br />BELIEVE. HE NOTED THAT THE METER READINGS ARE LISTED ON THE BILL, AND <br />THE CUSTOMER SHOULD CHECK THESE WITH THEIR METERS. HE EMPHASIZED THAT <br />IF THE METER IS OPERATING CORRECTLY AND THE WATER GOES THROUGH THAT <br />METER, FROM.THAT POINT ON IT IS THE CUSTOMER S RESPONSIBILITY. <br />DISCUSSION CONTINUED,.AND MR.
