Governor <br />Rehabilitative Services <br />September 19, 1978 <br />PROPOSED GUIDELINES FOR PUBLIC WOUS DEPARTMENT SUPERVISION OF COM.1UNITY {FORK PROJECT <br />FOIZ <br />JUVENILE OFFENDERS <br />The Youth Services Office will assign between six ten children, of the ages of <br />twelve through seventeen, to work for the City Public Works Department on Saturdays <br />from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. A half-hour lunch will be included in that time period. <br />Participants in the program will bring their own lunch and the Public Works Dept. <br />will provide water. <br />Each. Thursday, Public Works will inform Youth Services of the work site for the <br />following Saturday. Each Fr.i.day, Youth Services will provide Public Works with a <br />time sheet listing the youths assigned to the work crew. <br />Assignees will call Youth Services on I-ridays for the next work location. Assignees <br />will provide their own transportation to the work site. In emergencies Youth Services <br />will provide transportation. <br />On Saturdays, Public Works will provide a supervisor for the children at the work site. <br />Those children arriving no later than 8:15 a.m. will be listed as present on the <br />time sheet. Those -children arrving after 8:15 a.m. will be sent home and listed on the <br />time sheet as having arrived too late to provide a proper day's labor. <br />Any child misbehaving will be given two warnings by the supervisor before being sent <br />home. Any child not appearing for work or sent home early will receive no credit for <br />the day worked and will be assigned two days work for the one day missed. Any €hild <br />failing to complete three days of his assigned work load will be referred to the <br />Juvenile Court for further action. Exceptions to this rule for such problems as <br />illness will be the decision of the child's Probation Counselor. <br />Assignees will be told to carry $.25 (cents) for emergency phone calls. If they <br />become sick or are told to leave tho job site for misbehavior, the supervisor will <br />tell them to call their parents to nick them up. If their parents are not available, <br />Youth Services will be available for emergency transportation. <br />Time sheets will -be picked up from Public Works by Youth Services on Mondays. <br />Work crews will not be sexually integrated without Public Works -Department approval. <br />.
