_I <br />AUG 8 1979 Boor 41 AGF <br />RESOLUTION N0. 79-70 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, <br />Florida, herein called the "Applicant", after thorough consideration <br />of the problem and available data, has hereby determined that the <br />continuation of the project described below in in the best interests <br />of the general public, <br />The continuance of the Youth Aid Bureau in order to deal more <br />efficiently and progressively with the juvenile offender, The <br />Bureau will continue to utilize the services of the two trained <br />law enforcement officers to work with other juvenile justice <br />and law enforcement agencies in the prevention and diversion of <br />juvenile delinquency, The Indian River County Sheriff's Depart- <br />ment has employed the officers, and will be directly responsible <br />for their administration of this project, <br />These officers are working six days a week from 9:00 a.m., until <br />6:00 p.m., with an on-call arrangement, with 24-hour counseling <br />and immediate response to problem situations, They are receiv- <br />ing agents for juvenile referrals to law enforcement throughout <br />the county. They are readily available to other community agencies <br />for advice in establishing youth programs, and conduct educational <br />programs concerning criminal ,justice in the schools and other <br />community agencies, They work closely with the Department of <br />Health and Rehabilitation Service intake counselors and youth <br />probation officers. Files are maintained on each child with whom <br />they come in contact, and officers are available to parents for <br />consultation concerning juvenile crime, <br />WHEREAS, under terms of Public Law 90-351, as amended, the United States <br />of America has authorized the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, <br />through the Florida Bureau of Criminal Justice Planning and Assistance, <br />to make Federal Grants to assist local government in the improvement of <br />criminal justice; and <br />WHEREAS, the Applicant has examined and duly considered such Act and <br />the Applicant considers it to be in the public interest and to its <br />benefit to file an application under said Act and to authorize other <br />action in connection therewith: <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY, FLORIDA, IN OPEN MEETING ASSEMBLED IN THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />COURTHOUSE, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA, THE __ 8th DAY OF August 0 19796 <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br />
