AUG 2 21979 <br />my <br />41 <br />PAGF375 <br />VICE CHAIRMAN <br />Loy STATED THAT SHE WISHED TO ADD <br />TO <br />TODAY'S <br />AGENDA A MATTER CONCERNING TWO PISTOL PERMITS WHICH WERE SENT BACK <br />FOR A FURTHER CHECK BECAUSE A BOND HAD NOT BEEN SIGNED. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DEESON, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />LYONS, THE EMERGENCY MATTER REQUESTED BY VICE CHAIRMAN Loy WAS ADDED <br />TO TODAY IS AGENDA. <br />VICE CHAIRMAN Loy INFORMED THE BOARD THAT THESE PISTOL PERMIT <br />APPLICATIONS NOW HAVE COME BACK RECHECKED BY THE SHERIFFS DEPART- <br />MENT. THE BOND HAS NOW BEEN PROPERLY SIGNED�AND THE SHERIFF HAS NO <br />OBJECTION; THE PISTOL PERMIT APPLICATION OF PETER SABONJOHN AND <br />M ARIE SABONJOHN ARE IN ORDER. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DEESON, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />LYONS, COMMISSIONER SIEBERT VOTED IN OPPOSITION, THE BOARD APPROVED <br />APPLICATION FOR A PERMIT TO CARRY A CONCEALED FIREARM FOR PETER <br />SABONJOHN AND MARIE SABONJOHN. <br />DISCUSSION FOLLOWED IN REGARD TO THE POSSIBILITY OF HAVING <br />A DIFFERENT PROCEDURE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF PISTOL PERMITS. <br />ATTORNEY COLLINS WAS OF THE OPINION THAT THE BOARD DOES HAVE <br />AN OPTION IN THE ISSUANCE OF THESE PERMITS AND CAN MAKE A DECISION <br />IN REGARD TO ISSUANCE OF A PERMIT IF THEY FEEL IT IS IN THE BEST <br />INTERESTS OF THE COUNTY. <br />COMMISSIONER LYONS FELT THERE IS A PROLIFERATION OF PISTOL <br />PERMITS ISSUED AND ALSO FELT THAT THE BOARD DOES NOT GET ENOUGH <br />INFORMATION TO GIVE THEM A BASIS FOR A DECISION ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. <br />ATTORNEY COLLINS INFORMED THE BOARD THAT THERE IS A NEW <br />CASE LAW THAT HAS SET OUT ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES. ON GUN PERMITTING, <br />AND THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE THAT CAN REQUIRE MORE INFORMATION, IF <br />THE BOARD IS INTERESTED. <br />THE BOARD AGREED THAT THERE IS VERY LITTLE NEED TO CARRY A <br />CONCEALED WEAPON AND INFORMED THE ATTORNEY THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO <br />SEE THE PROCEDURE REVISED AND HAVE HIM REPORT BACK TO THEM ON NEW <br />PROCEDURES, <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT FELT WE SHOULD NOT ISSUE ANY PISTOL <br />PERMITS AT THIS TIME UNTIL FURTHER STUDY CAN BE MADE. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DEESON, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />LYONS, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY AGREED TO RESCIND THE PREVIOUS MOTION <br />
