Administrator 2145 14th Avenue Vero Beach, Florida 32960 <br />September 18, 1979 <br />The Honorable Robert Graham <br />Governor of Florida <br />State Capitol <br />Tallahassee, Florida 32304 <br />Dear Governor Graham: <br />RE: Hurricane David <br />Damage Assessment <br />Indian River County <br />At the request of the Director of Civil Defense in Indian <br />River County, Mr. Lee Nuzie, our staff worked diligently <br />with the joint federal and state Damage Evaluation Teams <br />to assess the damage caused by Hurricane David.. <br />Newspaper reports indicate .that your offices forwarded_ an <br />estimate based on these first estimates in the amount of <br />$23,000,000.to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for <br />presidential consideration. <br />As we bring together first estimates -of more areas of loss <br />they now total $52,149,000. This still isn't ou.r final <br />estimate and it is my belief that it will be'considerably <br />more as data becomes available. We are trying to cope with <br />a substantial disaster in Indian River County. <br />The source information for the current tabulated estimate <br />-of Hurricane David losses, $52,149,000, is as follows: <br />1.
