15.B.2. APPROVAL OF BID AWARD FOR IRC BID NO. 2008017, <br />FELLSMERE CUSTOMER CONVENIENCE CENTER <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Vice Chairman Davis, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Wheeler for discussion, to <br />approve staff's recommendation. <br />Himanshu Mehta, Director of the Solid Waste Disposal District, described the request for <br />Bid award for the construction of the new Fellsmere Convenience Center. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Wheeler questioned the spending of $1.850 million to <br />build a transfer station. He thought there must be something new in this construction to cost that <br />much. <br />Administrator Baird said a lot of it is roadway and drainage, and site work; and Director <br />Mehta provided further details on the construction of the new facility. Commissioner Wheeler <br />thought it looked like a lot of money for a transfer station. <br />The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and the Board <br />unanimously approved the Bid award to the lowest <br />responsive, responsible bidder, Barth Construction, Inc., of <br />Vero Beach, for $1,850,879.53. The Board also approved <br />and authorized the Chairman to execute the Agreement <br />when required performance and payment bonds have been <br />submitted along with appropriate certificate of insurance <br />and the County Attorney has approved the agreement as to <br />April 22, 2008 2 <br />S.W.D.D. <br />
