MINING MORATORIUM ORDINANCE EXTENSION (LEGISLATIVE) <br />PROOF OF PUBLICATION OF ADVERTISEMENT FOR HEARING IS ON FILE IN THE <br />OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />County Attorney William Collins, through a recap of the backup memorandum of <br />May 27, 2008, discussed the details of the mining moratorium extension. He recalled that on <br />January 7, 2008, a six-month moratorium, due to expire on July 10, 2008, was imposed on the <br />acceptance and processing of applications for mining permits. On April 22, 2008, the Board had <br />directed Attorney Collins to initiate the process of extending the moratorium (which must be <br />done by Ordinance) for up to an additional six months. After briefing the Board on the statutory <br />requirements regarding moratoriums, Attorney Collins reported that this would be the first of two <br />public hearings on the Mining Moratorium extension, and that it was necessary to select a date <br />and time for the second and final public hearing at today's (June 3, 2008) meeting. Attorney <br />Collins recommended that the second public hearing be held at the regular Board of County <br />Commission Meeting on June 17, 2008. <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing.
