OUASI-NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS <br />Administrator Baird announced the recommended budgets for the following entities: <br />Communitv Transportation - recommended $501,733, a reduction of 46.74% <br />Cultural Council - recommended $40,454, a reduction of 25.00% <br />Economic Development Division - recommended $99,620, a reduction of 36.31% <br />Gifford Youth Center - recommended $105,307, a reduction of 27.98% <br />Gifford Civic League - recommended $15,000, a reduction of 21.05% <br />Humane Societv - recommended $395,547, same as last year (contract per animal) <br />Homeless Services Council - recommended $17,859, a reduction of 25.00% <br />Commissioner O'Bryan wanted to know if the Community Transportation Grant would <br />fully fund the transit system. Administrator Baird said that it would come to the Board for a <br />percentage matching vote. <br />Gordon Willard, Executive Director of the Humane Society in Vero Beach, related how <br />the animal control components deal with public safety and quality of life issues. He told how the <br />Humane Society's function with the County is providing services through a contract of mandated <br />services, and emphasized that the rate that the County pays is substantially discounted. <br />Melanie Jones-Neach, 343 13th Street SW, spoke on behalf of KIRB, focusing on the <br />recycling program within the County. She said that partnering with the Solid Waste Disposal <br />District had increased recycling, exceeding $100,000.00 in revenues. Now that the recycling <br />program has been expanded, she hopes they will have the opportunity to promote, educate, and <br />continue to assist the residents with recycling. <br />July 16, 2008 21 <br />
