THE HONORABLE RALPH POPPELL, STATE <br />REPRESENTATIVE, DISTRICT 29, LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FOR THE <br />2006 SESSION OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES <br />Representative Poppell <br /> discussed various items from the 2006 session of the Florida House of <br />Representatives, including the Badcock Ranch and the State budget. The Representative thanked the <br />people that he serves. <br />5.C. PRESENTATION BY KATHERINE WEGEL, PRESIDENT <br />OF THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS <br />nd <br />Kathy Wegel <br />, 8060 142 St., Sebastian, discussed the need for an Environmental Horticulture <br />Agent for Indian River County. She declared population growth and urbanization have further increased <br />the need for horticultural services. <br />County Administrator Joseph A. Baird said the budget would have to be increased to add this <br />position. He felt the message he received from the Commissioners was to keep the millage down. <br />All the Commissioners felt this was a good program and discussed changing the budget. <br /> <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Davis, the Board approved, by a 4–1 vote, <br />(Commissioner Bowden opposed) to add $26,000 to the <br />2006/2007 FY budget for an Environmental Horticulture Agent. <br /> <br />July 18, 2006 <br />3 <br /> <br />
