SHE CONTINUED THAT THEY ARE IN <br />FULL ACCORD WITH THE R -2B WHICH WILL LIMIT THEM TO ONLY 8 UNITS <br />AN ACRE INSTEAD OF THE 15 ALLOWED IN R-2 AND WOULD ENABLE THEM TO <br />CONSTRUCT HIGH QUALITY UNITS. MRS. CHILDERS CONTINUED THAT THEIR <br />ORIGINAL INTENT WAS TO RESELL, AND 14 HALF ACRE LOTS WERE CREATED; <br />LANDSCAPING WAS DONE; A FENCE WAS ERECTED TO SEPARATE THE SITE FROM <br />THE MOBILE HOME PARK TO THE EAST, ETC.; AND THEY REALIZED THE SALE <br />OF SIX LOTS, ON ONE OF WHICH A LARGE HOME HAS BEEN BUILT. SINCE <br />THE BUILDING OF SKATETOWN IN 1978 AND THE ENSUING NOISE AND CONFUSION, <br />ONLY ONE ADDITIONAL PARCEL HAS BEEN SOLD; IN ADDITION, THE DECLINE <br />IN THE ECONOMY AND THE HIGHER INTEREST RATES HELPED CREATE A DOWN- <br />TURN IN ACREAGE SALES. FOR THESE REASONS, THEY DECIDED TO PUT IN <br />ATTRACTIVE, LOW DENSITY MULTI -FAMILY UNITS - ONE SINGLE STORY FOURPLEX <br />PER HALF ACRE, EACH UNIT TO CONTAIN A MINIMUM OF 1000 SQ. FT. OF <br />LIVING AREA, OR A TOTAL OF 4,000 SQ. FT. PER BUILDING. <br />MR. CHILDERS THEN PRESENTED DRAWINGS OF THE PROPOSED <br />BUILDINGS AND SLIDES OF THE SURROUNDING AREA, INCLUDING SKATETOWN, <br />COACHLAND MOBILE HOME PARK, AN ADJACENT VACANT TEN ACRE STRIP AND <br />A GOOD MANY OF THE VARIED COMMERCIAL USES BEING CONDUCTED IN THE <br />AREA, INCLUDING CAMPERLAND SALES, A TRANSPORTATION FIRM, A MANU- <br />FACTURING FIRM, AND SOME MINIWAREHOUSES WHICH ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. <br />MR. CHILDERS SHOWED PICTURES OF TALL TREES ALONG REBEL ROAD WHICH <br />PROVIDE A BUFFER. HE ALSO SHOWED SLIDES OF OTHER LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT <br />THE CITY WHERE THERE ARE APARTMENTS NEARBY WELL -KEPT HOMES, I.E. <br />ROYAL PALM BLVD., AND MCANSH PARK, HE DID NOT FEEL THESE HOMES <br />SUFFERED DEVALUATION AS A RESULT. <br />MRS. CHILDERS DID NOT FEEL THEIR PROPOSED PROJECT WOULD <br />STRIKE A DISCORDANT NOTE WITH THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE AREA BUT THAT <br />RATHER IT WOULD PROVIDE A GOOD TRANSITION FROM RESIDENTIAL TO THE <br />OBJECTIONABLE COMMERCIAL. SHE POINTED OUT THAT THERE IS A RECOGNIZED <br />NEED FOR SUITABLE RENTALS IN THE COUNTY. SHE FURTHER NOTED THAT <br />THE COUNTY HAS SLATED THIS AREA FOR FUTURE WATER AND SEWAGE, AND <br />UNTIL THEN, THEY WOULD ABIDE BY HEALTH DEPARTMENT REGULATIONS AND <br />55 <br />APR 91980 -MOK 43 wil9 <br />
